Browsing
You can use the map and the library without an account. We do not need to know who you are for that.
What we keep when you collect
- Your email address. Collecting needs an account. You sign in with a link we email you. That email address is your account.
- Your photos. When you photograph a label, the photo is stored with the find.
- Where you were, if you allow it. Your phone asks first. The location is used to score the find by its distance from the distillery. We keep it with the find. It is never shown to other people.
- Your finds and points: the distillery, the bottling, the score, the time, and an optional note.
- A display name, only if you set one.
What other people can see
The Collection page is public. For each find it shows the label photo, the distillery, the bottling, the score and when it was found, with your display name if you set one, or "a collector" if you did not. It never shows your email address or your location.
Featured on our social accounts
We may feature a find from a signed-in collector on the Whisky Whale account on X, and on other Whisky Whale social accounts. A feature shows the label photo, the name of the whisky and a link to the find in the Collection. It does not include your name, email address, location or points. To have a find taken down, or to keep your finds from ever being featured, email us at the address below and we will do it.
Who processes your information for us
- Google hosts the site and stores accounts, finds and photos (Firebase and Google Cloud), and provides Google Analytics.
- Anthropic reads the label photo to work out which distillery and bottling it shows. Only the photo you take is sent, and only when you ask us to read it.
- Our email service sends your sign-in link.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Analytics and storage on your device
We use Google Analytics to count visits and to see which steps people take, such as signing in or saving a find. Analytics may set cookies on your device. It receives page views and counts of actions. It does not receive your email address, your photos or your location. Your sign-in is kept in your browser's local storage on your device so you stay signed in.
Who this is for
Whisky Whale is about alcohol. It is for people who are of legal drinking age where they live. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone below that age.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and finds until you ask us to remove them.
Your choices
Email admin@realizerlabs.com to see what we hold about you, to correct it, to have a find or your whole account and photos deleted, or to stop us featuring your finds. Send the request from the address you signed in with.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will change the date at the top. Questions are welcome at the same address.
